Everest Base Camp Trek: A Short EBC Trek to Iconic Himalaya

About This Experience
This is the fastest standard itinerary on this site — the same essential Everest Base Camp route as the longer treks, condensed into nine days for trekkers who are already fit and short on time. It covers roughly 130 kilometers round-trip, starting with the Kathmandu-Lukla flight and a first day's walk to Phakding.
The route follows the familiar line through Namche Bazaar and Tengboche Monastery, with one acclimatization day at Namche and one at Dingboche (4,410m) before continuing through Lobuche to Gorak Shep and the final approach to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) alongside the Khumbu Glacier.
A pre-dawn hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m) for sunrise is included before the descent back to Lukla. Because the schedule moves faster than the 12- or 14-day versions, operators recommend it mainly for trekkers confident in their fitness and altitude tolerance — extra acclimatization days can usually be added on request.

Completed an 8-day round trip EBC trek from Lukla in late May 2025! We ascended in 5 1/2 days and descended in 2 1/2 days which was quick compared to normal but something my father and I wanted to complete. Ramesh was a fantastic and attentive guide and Sobit was an excellent trek coordinator. Can’t say enough about our experience and we highly recommend Bold Himalaya! Next stop Annapurna! Date of experience: May 2025

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the short Everest Base Camp trek less safe than the 12-day version?
It follows the same route and altitude profile — the difference is a tighter schedule with less rest time. It's better suited to trekkers who are already very fit and acclimatize quickly; ask about adding 1-2 extra acclimatization days if you're not sure.
How far do you actually walk each day?
Most days run 5-8 hours of walking, similar to the longer itineraries — this version simply compresses the rest days rather than shortening the daily distances.
